The passenger side headrest on my 1987 560SEL has a minor promlem. When I engage the switch to raise it, it goes up just fine, however when I try to lower it, there is no movement. The motor lowers, but the headrest remains in the same position. If I rest my hand on the headrest (adding some weight) it will lower. Can I just lubricate the bars on the headrest, or do you think it is more involved than that. If lubrication would do the trick, what do you reccomend? Thanks in advance.

There is a simple (cheap) plastic toothed strip that is the drive for the headrest in the back of the seat. It can be easily replaced by removing the back cover of the seat.

It can also be easily repaired. Search 'headrest' and 'barrie' for the procedure (posted 08-10-2000).

thanks for the tips, however the broken off tip is nowhere to be found! I cannot find a part number on the plastic track piece, is this piece available on it's own? Any ideas as to the part number?
Thanks

PartsShop should be able to give you that information.

Well...I found the peice! The previous owner had given me a box of "things" (extra hood star, footrests, etc.) and it was in there! So, I followed your instructions, and it worked great! Thanks again!
