Unhappy C230 wont shift

Help, the wife spilled a cup of water onto the center console of her 2000 c230 sport kompressor. The BAS ESP light is on now, and the car is in the limp home mode now. Also, with the engine running, after the car is stopped with my foot on the brake, I can not select the park position. Please advise.

You have a few options. The cheap way out is to dry it out. You can use compressed air if you have access to it, like a service station of some sort nearby with a compressor and just blow in there as best you can with whatever they have available. A hand-held hair dryer would help, not TOO hot, just nice dry warm air. If you are sure it was just WATER, it should be OK, if it was something sweet like sweetened coffee or soda, then it may need replacement.
MB did have a bulletin out about a shifter with better waterproofing, so if it doesn't dry out and work OK, you'd get a better shifter in it's place when you order a new one. I'm sure the new and improved ones are the only ones currently available.

Vkarnauchov,

Most likely the liqid from the coffee has ruined the ****fer selsctor switch, I am not sure if you can just replace the switch or you gonn have to replace the complete shifter assamblie. Some models the switch is in the selector assemblie, and cannot be replaced alone without the complete shifter. Not sure on yours, gonna have to call the dealer parts dept.

You're talking about the range recognition switch, that was used up until 99. This is a 2000, so it has Touchshift, which is an entire module, no replaceable parts, they consider it a "control module". On the older ones yes they had a batch of bad range recognition switches, replaced lots of them.
