Any help would be appreciated.

I own a 1982 300TD. Transmission began shifting poorly in August, top gear was engaged by 25 mph, would not shift into passing gear on hard acceleration. To save money, I took car to a friend of a friend who rebuilt transmission (including new valve body). Work was completed day before my wedding, drove car on honeymoon, and transmission gave up 650 miles from home in a small town. Now it is in the hands of the local transmission shop in this small town. Problem was diagnosed as transmission not pumping fluid, so the mechanic had the torque converter rebuilt and installed a new hydraulic pump, and it is still not pumping fluid (he said the fluid level registers high on the dip stick, meaning it is not being drawn into the transmission). Meanwhile I am forced to drive my motorcycle to work and rainy season is starting. Any ideas to pass along to the mechanic (he said he has worked on Mercedes in the past but is not very familiar)?

Best advice, bite the bullet and get a rebuilt tranny from one of the companies who SPECIALIZE in MB transmissions $1300-$1500. There is one in Oklahoma who advertises in The STAR. They sell tranny and torque converter for $1300 with a 1 year unlimited mile warranty. Sorry, I lost the phone # look in The STAR.

If you really want to be sure, get same from Mercedes,about $1800.

I know this is alot of $$$ but, if you plan on keeping the car,it's money well spent. A MB tranny is not for someone who did one once to fool with. You'll end up spending more than a rebuild will. Sometimes,cheap is expensive.

I've resigned myself to getting a rebuilt transmission at this point. Too bad I've already spent well beyond what it would have cost me to do just that right from the start. Expensive education. Still, I would like to know what would cause the problem described.

Has anyone used Sun Valley Hydraulics rebuilt transmissions? They're very close to where I live, would be convenient for warranty purposes.

Go to Peter Schmid trans in Burlingame.
They know what they are doing and alot of big shops farm out to them anyway.
So go to the source and bow out the middle man!

Does Peter Schmid Trans sell rebuilt transmissions? My car is stuck in a small town in northern Ca. (Mt Shasta), 650 miles from me. I need to buy a tranny and ship it to the guy who has my car now. At this point I'm just looking for a quality tranny, I can't move the car.
