126 Rear Crankshaft Seal

Dear All:

My 1990 420 SEL has developed a leak in the rear seal. Is this a one-piece, or rope seal? Can I remove just the transmission, or do I need to pull the engine? I have it at my mechanic's shop and he is looking for guidance. He is a great guy, but still learning about MB's. Can someone please give me guidance?

Thanks,

Phoenix

You have to remove trans & flywheel to replace engine rear crank seal, usually rear crank seal don't leaks is the rear crank seal cover leaks, but when you reseal rear seal cover just replace the seal at same time.that is a one-piece seal.
