1986 300E Won't start

No spark from the coil, can anyone tell me what the resistance reading is supposed to be across the coil? Getting fuel, holding spark plug against the exhaust manifold- no spark. 12v going into the coil, want to verify bad coil before I pay over $100 for one. Thanks for the help.

Follow up to my first post--on some advice here on the forum, I checked the crank position sensor resistence values. It shows an open. Just to be sure, I checked my 87 560 SEL and it checked 970 Ohms, what the book said it was supposed to. SOO, we ordered a crank position sensor and a distributor cap at 154.00 and change. We'll see when the parts get here, stay tuned....
