500E Self leveling Question

Hi all, silly question regarding the level control rod : Is it inserted on the level controller arm from the side of the level controller or the differential. The latter seems to allow for a more vertically aligned rod, but the head of the connector seems to close to the rubber boot on the rear wheel half-shaft. On the other hand, inserting from the controller side makes the rod take an almost oblique alignment. This in turn appears to put a strain on the rubber booted ball-joint associated with the connector screw, which is inserted into the arm.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

thanks.

Are you suggesting that each actuator (I assume you are referencing the components which are commonly called nitrogen spheres) has a different part number or that there is at least a right side and left side?

If so, why would putting them on backwards affect performance? They both have the same function in terms of oil in and out.
