Brakes are sticking
I recently changed the front discs and calipers due to the driver's side sticking and making the disc red hot. So I changed both sides and it seems to be happening on the passenger side know. I have bled the lines and that did not work. When I step on the brakes it pulls hard to the right and will stick there. What can be the problem? My fiance just got this willed to her and we do not know much about the Mercedes.

The rubber brake line may be collapsed causing the caliper to stick/not release properly. Since the car is 31 years old it's probably time to replace the brake lines on all 4 calipers.

You'll probably need to get you calipers rebuilt. The pistons will tend to either stick or leak on a worn caliper.
Swollen brake lines can also give a similar but milder effect. Did to old pads wear diferently (noticably) on each side of the same caliper? if they did then you'll definately need a caliper overhaul |
Cddaily, your original post may have caused some confusion. You mentioned that you replaced the front discs and calipers. Did you actually replace the calipers or simply the front discs and brake pads?

Brake hoses are definitely shot, replace them all. I've seen this several times -- the hose lining goes bad and a flap forms that acts as a one-way valve. YOu apply the brakes and they stay on, forever or until you open the bleeder, when they nicely release.
New hose will fix it. Flush all the fluid out of the rears, too, and I'd plan on a caliper rebuild back there, too, they will stick eventually from old hard piston seals. You should know that MB rotors are disposable -- usually need to be replaced every third set of pads or so, cannot be turned. They are not expensive. Easy to check -- if there is a distinct lip on the edge of the rotor where the pads don't cover, replace the rotor, it's undersized. If you let the rotors get too thin, the backing plate on the pad will contact the anti-rattle spring, the pistons will get cocked, stick, overheat the pads, and roast all the rubber parts in the calipers. Avoid the hassle by replacing the rotors as necessry. Peter |
