Window motor help, just clicking...

I'm fixing my old '86 190D drivers window. It was stuck in the up position. I removed the motor and found that a plastic guide for the verticle channel was broken. I fixed the guide and verified the motor was working. )Applied power in both directions)

I put everything back in place. Window goes up and down. Great!

Put window all the way up. But won't come back down again. It just clicks. Is there a stop that the motor hits or something? I see that there is some kind of set screw.

Could be the Regulator

Clicking is a classic sign of a stripped regulator. There is a good chance that the regulator teeth are worn at the up position.

When you had it apart did you take a good look at the teeth on the regulator? They can and do break. I just replaced the regulator on my passenger side of my 300CD due to 1/2 the teeth on it being broken off.

I should have been more clear. It only clicks once. Each time you press the button. The motor does not turn at all. No stripped teeth.

Any idea. I'll take it out again at lunch.

It's my old 190D I sold to a friends daughter. She needs this car back for college.

It's the plastic gear on the inside of the motor housing. There is a section where the teeth are broken. Need new motor... :(
