Can i bypass this switch?

Had problems with the Neutral Safety Switch,Adjusted it but the problem came back.Called Phil and ordered a new one.Installed it last week, worked fine for two weeks, but now the problem is back. Today i readjusted it and it is working fine again.Yes the shifter bushings are new.If this happens again when i am far away from home,i wound like to know how to bypass the switch[if this is possible] so i can cet back home.Could there be another problem causing this switch to sudenly malfunction?

Disconnect electrical wiring harness at the switch & jump the 2 terminals marked 50. There is also a connector under hood at firewall that if you jump to + pole of battery the starter will work.

M.B Doc: Can you be more specific on the location of that connector and how to jump it?

When I built my Blazer I by passed the switch ,you got to remember that it will start in any gear if you do it, and old habits are still there ...............

This would only be temporary.

I assume you tried "N" ??

Just re-adjusted the switch, and it is working fine. It will start in P and N and the backup lights are working. For some reason it only workes for a few days and the problem startes all over again. Hopefully this time it will last.

This subject brings back fond memories. I had an old 1968 Cadillac convertible (DeVille for those that know Caddies) I bought for $450 when I was a lad. This is the car I cut my teeth on. Well, the old neutral safety switch went out one day, and 2 days later I finally figured out what a neutral safety switch was :p . I bypassed it, as I had little money for such things. Coincidentally, the carburetor was a wreck, and the car idled really high. The car HAD to be shut off in drive or it would just keep running in run-on. You can see where this is going. I sometimes forgot to put the car in neutral, and with that high idle, the damn thing launched on start up! Came awful close to smacking whoever was parked in front of me on those days.
