E320 95 turn signal does not work
 

The turn signals (left and right) in my 95 E320 stop working. Before it completely go dead, it work for a few days, and then when I am ready to work on it, it works again. This time it completely goes dead. When I turn signal left or right, no thing happens. When the turn signal does not work, the hazard lights and the intermittent wiper also do not work. I turn on and off the hazard switch several time, but the turn signal and hazard light completely go dead. Reading the forum, I suspect the Combination Relay N10 is bad. The problem is the same as Waynesworld's problem in his 90 300SL. Gilly did provide him with a good testing procedure, but this procedure does not work on my E320 because the N10 in my car have only 16 pin connector (5 big one and several small ones) not 19 as described in Waynesworld's car. Does anyone have a schematic diagram for turn signal for 1995 E320 and how to test this relay, please help me how to diagnos the relay N10 problem before I go out and spend few hundreds dollars for this relay. I hate to buy the new relay and later find out that it is not the relay problem. I have the MB CDs but these CD do not help. They do not have a schematic for turn signal.

The CD does have wiring diagrams. They are called ETMs.

Yeah, you did post something that said, to the effect, that the wiring for the signals kind of "dead ends" at the module. This is fine, the socket number at the connector should be given, and the wiring color will help. So all that needs to be done is the relay is removed, but still plugged in, and the particular output you need to test is backprobed. Although I doubt you'd have several circuits all have a wiring problem. Given the list of problems you have, I'd be more concerned with testing the power supply/supplies to the module. You could also be concerned about the combination switch at this point also, so it may be a better idea to test a few switch inputs to the module.
Let me see if I can find a the ETM's in my disc, I also think that Steve is correct and the diagrams are on your disc.

That relay is not a few hundred dollars - more like $50 to $75 depending on where you buy it. There's a good chance that's the problem. They go bad all the time. The eaisest way to test is to find another 124 and swap them - takes about 5 minutes even if you take a break in the middle of the job. The part number is 201 821 02 47 - fits all 124s I believe. It's located in the relay box right behind the fuse box.

I think I nail down the problem. It is the combination relay N10. The following is what I did. I pull out the schematic diagram form MB CD it call "Model 124 Exterior Lighting". Took out the Combination Relay N10. It is behind the fuse box. You have to lift up the cover (6 screws) before you can see the relay and it is Relay H. This relay is for turn signal/hazard signal, windshield wiper motor and rear defroter. Do some testing. The test is as follow:

1. Check Socket 2 (wide W1 to ground) and it shows very low resistance and is o.k

2. Turn hazard switch on, check voltage between Socket 8 (positive) and Socket 2 (negative) and get battery voltage around 12 V and it is o.k. If it is not then fuse #6 or the hazard switch is bad.

5. Turn ignition on, hazard switch off and check voltage between Sock 8 and Socket 2 again and it should be 12 V. If it is not, then fuse #9 or the ignition switch is bad.

6. Turn hazard switch on, jump a wire from socket 8 to socket 10 (this is the contact that provide power to socket 10 when the coil is energized), all turn turn signal lamps should be on (2 on the right and 2 on the left). If not, then the wiring to or the bulb is bad.

7. Turn ignition on, turn Right signal on. Jump wire socket 8 to socket 10. right side signal lamps should be on. Turn left signal on and left side signal lamps should be on. If not then the wiring to or the bulb is bad.

If all tests are satisfactory, then the combination relay is bad.

I also disassembled the N10 relay and found some burning/melting in the soldering of circuit board. Definitely, the relay problem.
