Which SPEEDOMETER?

I want to upgrade my speedometer. Can someone tell me which ones I can use? Are all the W124 speedometers interchangeable? Is it just the face plates that are different between the US - Canadian - EURO versions? My car is a Canadian spec 1989 300CE.

Here are some different W124 speedometers that I found. So many different part numbers:

1. MB 124 542 31 68. This is from a 1990 300CE.

What's wrong with your existing speedometer? Be careful, some speedometers are electronic and not cable driven.

I ruined mine...colored guages. If I buy a new one from the dealer then I want to know what choices I have since they are so expensive. If I buy used then I want to know what the newest one I can use. Chances are the newer the instrument cluster the lower the mileage. It would be kind of hard to find a 1989 instrument cluster with low mileage.

I think you can use a speedometer from any 300E/CE/TE. The speedometers from the 400E/E420 and 500E/E500 look almost identical, but won't work because they are electronic.

If the 124s follow the lead of earlier models, those #s on the faceplates are not the #s of the speedos but merely the part #s of the faceplates.

So what years will work for 300E/CE/TE?
