Hello,

I have been having some running problems lately and I have noticed a strong fuel smell in the backseat of my car, I checked the vent valve, the return line and the fuel line that runs to the pump and all are ok. What I was wondering is, where do these fuel lines run and would it be an easy job to replace them? Thanks for your help.

The tank is behind the back seat. Check in the trunk for fumes. You may have a leak around the fuel sending mount in the top of the tank. Do you notice this when running or after running when shut down. After a run, remove the fuel filler cap. You should hear a slight rush of air going into the tank..

Well I dont smell it in the trunk, I have inspected the top of the sending unit and have looked under the tank but could not see any wet/moist areas and could not smell anything. It usually smells about 10 minutes after I shut off the car and close the windows. I was thinking it was a fuel line because whenever I accelerate, on the shift from 2nd-3rd right in the drivers rear floorboard I can hear this noise that sounds like a aerosol can when you spray it, it only happens for about half a second then quits.

Adam, get under the car and take a look at the fuel pump and accumulator. They're on the right side of the driveshaft just forward of the rear end (under a protective cover. Look around in that area and see if you can find any evidence of fuel staining. You may have to put it up on a lift and have the engine running or at least the fuel pump energized to see if it's leaking in that area. Good luck..
