Fog Lamp Lens Replacement 300E

I have a 88 300E and the drivers side fog lamp lens broke the other day. Does anyone know if I can just replace the lens or do I need to buy a whole headlight assembly.

The lens come off, held on by three or four plastic clips.

Sad thing is that the clips are in the same condition as the lens was -- poor. May break off when you lift them up.

The top ones are visible when you open the hood. Bottom ones require that you remove the turn signal indicator and the trim under the headlight assembly.

Usually $75 or so on eBay, more at the dealer. You will want to replace both, the other side will look strange with the new one in place.

Note that you can get DEPO Euro style headlights for about $270, about double the lens cost, and the lighting is VASTLY better.

Fog light lens replacement

I replaced both faded, chipped lenses on my '88 260e and it really makes it look better. Fastlane sells them under "headlight rim". Be careful not to break the plastic clips that hold the lens on, they get brittle with age.

If you don't like yellow fog lights, you can remove the amber cover while you have the headlight apart. I took the covers off of mine and put in 100w xenon bulbs and have nice white fog lights now. I made sure that the added wattage and removed cover would not damage the new lens and after several years everything is still fine.
