It appears that the cables are out of adjustment for the sunroof on my E320. When I open the sunroof the right side pulls more than the left side (sunroof is cocked). I can open the sunroof if I use my hand on the left side to help it along otherwise it makes a creeking noise and opens only 2-3 inches.

Any suggestions on what to look for would be appreciated.

Try greasing the track. I did and mine works much better now. The roof wouldn't go into thte up position on the left side. I greased everywhere I could see a part that moved, and the roof keeps getting smoother and smoother.

Try greasing the track and the pivot points for the up pivot on the roof. You should see a huge difference in the roof's operation.

I greased the track and opened and closed it several times with the same results. I suspect that the cables are out of alignmemnt by the way it sounds.

Well thats a tough one, try searching the forums for Sunroof problems and see what comes up, also try searching for sunroof adjustment, and other terms related to it. you should find a ton of useful information regarding the sunroof operation and fixes people have done.

In my case, a little grease was needed as the track was bone dry and the roof would skip a bit or slow down to a crawl. now its smooth and moves at a constant speed until it closes. When I would pitch the roof the left side would stay down, so I greased the pivots and that cleared that up too.

People have removed their motors and all, so Search for sunroof in the forums and you should find some helpful information.

I assume your sun roof works like all the other Mercedes. If so,then there is only one cable to the sun roof and there is an adjustment for it at the motor in the trunk of your car. Refer to your owners manual for instructions. If no instructions, let me know and I will be glad to send them to you. This is a fairly easy thing to do, so don't despair. You can do it.

What year of E320? '98 and on have a different control module.

Unfortunately my owners manual does not have any detailed info on the sunroof and the W210 service CD is not available yet.

Any information/illustrations would be greatly appreciated.

I did search the sunroof topic in the forums an found some detailed information on adjusting the sunroof.

I am interested in knowing what the preferred starting point is (starting at the motor in the trunk or removing the headliner?).

If you have a '98, it is in warranty. Take it back to the dealer. My daughter is having problems with hers also.

Since my 98 E320 has 68K mi is is out of warranty.
