I have 1992 300TE. When I first start up the car, the defroster, heater and A/C with fans work fine. After it runs for 2-3 minutes and I have turned off the fans and I try to turn the fans back on, no result. I am guessing it is a fuse. When I checked the fuses, I didn't see one burned thru? From the fuse box legend, #7 runs the fans, but it looks fine.

Any thoughts?

Looks can ba deceiving. Check the element of the fuse. Make sure it is not broken.

Its not a fuse if this happens more than once. Fuses very seldom fix themselves. I say very seldom because they do on occasion corrode which can cause intermittant connection.

Try wiggling the ignition key when they don't work. Ignition switches often cause the A/C blower circuit to be intermittant.

Another new development. Now the fans do not work at all. Th fuse seems to be fine. I have exchanged it for a different one and also check the other items this fuse runs, ie. backup lights, and they are fine. So basically no use of fans. Could it be the fan itself? or a short somewhere? Thanks!

Check the fuse for the blower,it is located in its own little housing mounted near the fuse box (black plastic box about 2" x 1")
with a cap that unsnaps. Open the box and you'll find the fuse, a flat metal link has broken from stress, replace it with a 30
amp fuse available from your dealer.

I have seen a similar problem caused by a slipping drive belt. There is a magic system that shuts down the system for some reason if the belt is slipping on the compressor. Granted, this happened in the heat of the summer, but it is related to your problem.

Good luck,
