This is for a 1983 240D. I have been working on this for a while and have determined that the temperature gauge is bad (I am 98% sure it is the temp gauge). I have found an insturment cluster with a bad oil pressure gauge. I am trying to take the good temp gauge off one cluster and exchange it for the bad one on one the other cluster. I have tried to remove the needle off the good temp gauge and have encoutered some difficulty in getting it off. I know it just slides off, but I am afraid that I might damage the good gauge if I do this incorrectly. Is there a recommended way to get the needle off, or to I just try to be careful?

I would fabricate a small puller that will slide under the needle and then use it like a slide hammer to take it off.
