No horn sound...
I noticed that my horn will not sound when the upper right corner of the airbag is depressed. Upon further investigation, I found out that there is a small gap between the airbag and steering wheel when compared to the other side of the airbag (see attached photos).
Before I take it apart for repair, what part(s) has failed since this is my only transporation and I don't want to be stranded at home if I can't get it fixed. Are the instructions for removing the steering wheel (3" long Torx screwdriver size ???) applicable also? Thanks for the assistance. p.s. What is that small capped button that is below the accelerator pedal? Is it a kickdown switch or something??

I am not a high tech person myself, but I would like to share a few pointers on this matter that I have heard around:
First, be very careful at handling the airbag, it could deploy if not managed properly. After you remove it, store it face up, so if it deploys by itself, the bag will deploy upwards. If you store it face down, the housing could become a dangerous projectile if the airbag deploys itself. When reinstalling the housing, be careful about on handling the deployment wires. You have to be sure that the steering wheel is CENTERED. Also, all proper procedures have to be followed according to the manufacturer. If not, the SRS light will come on and you will have to access the computer to turn it off.

For my C230, the first step in removing the steering wheel is "Disconnect battery ground cable at battery"

I didn't see the obvious addressed here -- the fuse. I hope it was checked.
If you must DIY on the air bag, I want to add that sliding your body across the seat fabric or carpet can develop static electricity, same as the spark you feel when getting out of the car. This static electricity - if applied in the proper location - can set off the airbag.

I know how to remove the airbag but everyone who has responded has not answered the question of why the horn isn't working on that particular area of the steering wheel.

This is a pic from 92 W140, I believe you have same or similar steering wheel. Maybe contact plate loose or broken?

That photo should help. This idea is off the wall, but maybe something fell down in there, a piece of paper or something? That might explain the mis-alignment you seem to observe. In any case it seems that you will have to remove the air bag and see what the trouble is. It should be apparent once you have it off.
