S420/500 W140
Dear All,
I have been searching the W140 s500 recently. There is one thing i notice in some of the S500. After open the hood, I can see some gold color(or new motor oil color) on the silver part of the engine (in front of the black rubber cover) I am wondering if it is normal? or it means a previous motor oil leak? or just a dirty oil changed? Sorry for my poor english and I hope you guys know what i am talking about. j |

If it's clean oil, most likely a sloppy fill. Wipe it clean, go for a spirited test ride, then check if it's wet again.

Oh, then that's probably the protective coating (cosmoline?) applied to the engine for the boat ride. It discolors over time. Nothing to worry about.

Another question just pop out. I saw 2 used car today and suddenly find out the coolant is in GREEN color, (unlike my old benz, all of them are in brown color)
I am wondering if Mercedes changed their coolant color (or special brand for Tropical weather) or those used car dealer just filled in non Mercedes coolent? Thanks! |

They had non merc coolent, which on the new cars is a very, very bad idea. Lots of plastic and alum to corrode.
