Just made an appointment to get the coolant changed finally. After all the great advice form all of you I ended up buying the following:

Red Line Watter Watter $10.49 from Canadian Tire
Prestone Super Flush $3.99 from Canadian Tire instead of MB Citric Acid $24.00
Distilled Water $2.97 from Wal Mart

I'll take a good look at the hoses when I'm there to see if I need to replace any them.

How about smaller pictures of cooling system supplies and bigger pictures like your avatar.

I believe I used up my once-in-a-lifetime option to pull something like that. Hope it was worth it ;)

Hello'

coolant leak location

It looked to me either from top neck on radiator, or, the gasket between theplastic tank and core. A radiator shop can install a new tank for under $100.

lino 10-21-2004 12:28 PM

Turned out my thermostat was not good. That's what looks like caused that problem of the built up pressure in mycooling system and caused the radiator nipple to blow. I'm so happy I found that out and replaced it.

I drained the entire cooling system and filled with the Prestone flush and water. Ran that through for 15 minutes with the heat on maximum setting and went for a short drive. Came back and drained that all out. The fluid was super clean! Then I filled with water and ran for 15 minutes with the heat still on maximum setting and drained that all out. Finally, I filled up with the MB antifreeze and distilled water and topped off with the Red Line Water Wetter. Good as new!

I have a bad smell inside the car now after the coolant flush. Any ideas why this has happened or how to fix it?

smell

does it smell like the flush you used? you really have to get all of that out of the system, either draining from the engine blocks or filling and running the system with water until it is all gone (clear water)

other thoughts would be a hose or heater core but I defer on that to others with much more insight into your car

lino 10-23-2004 11:40 AM

When I did my final drain it was only clear water that came out. I'm not sure if the smell is like the flush. I didn't smell of the flush when I used it.

If it smells of glycol (smell the coolant) and you are getting greasy stuff on the windshield, the heater core is leaking and must be replaced.

No greasy stuff on the windshield, just a very strong smell inside the car.

I just checked the coolant level and it is at the full mark.
