bad odor in climate control
 

I have a bad odor coming from the climate cotrol vents in my 88 300E. It seems to be worse when th AC is on, been told we have some leaks in the system
could this be the problem? How do you change the dust pollen filter in this system?

What year are you working on? Only the last few years of the 124 had a dust filter, which were referred to as "E320", E300 Diesel, E420, etc, not 300E's

I saw a product that you spray into the center vents on to the evap core. The product states that it gets rid of the mildew, fungus, etc... that causes most of the smells.. http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/radiator_foam.html

I thought of that stuff too. It seems like it's only a temporary solution (I've used it), unless your problem really IS something "growing" in your evap case.
Mainly I'm curious if the guy DOES have a filter or not, I'm sure he's curious about that too.......

94/95 124s had the filters.
I see them listed for earlier models, but I believe that is a mistake...

Sorry. I didn't put the year of my 300E, 1988 in my first post,where is the evap core? I'm just a woman that has alot of ? that the mechanics can't answer.

Yeah, no dust filter on one that old. The evaporator is kinda buried in the dash.
You can try an "Autozone" for a spray product like what was mentioned that may help "deodorize" the evaporator case, just follow the instructions on the can. I have also tried running the car with the AC on and pouring a gallon bucket of HOT water with a little liquid Lysol in it down in the intake vents. You'll see the intake vents I'm talking about if you open the hood and look near the wiper arm. You can also just try using Lysol spray or "Oust".
