'91 560SEL, 135k miles.
No major problems. I've had it since December 2000 and have spent about $3K, including routine maintenance. Some work done by me, the rest by an indie. The most expensive "issue" was replacing the rear shocks. About $1000 just for the parts. Chain/rails will be done this winter. |

95 E320 Touring 140K
First of All, love driving this car. There is no comparison. It pulls like a stable full of clydesdales and I love routinely pulling away from anybody I want on the highway even with 6 passengers and a full luggage rack.
Now for the rundown: Engine Wiring Harness - Dealer fixed prior to purchase Head Gasket - Dealer fixed prior to purchase Trail Arm Bushings - Dealer fixed Head Rest Motor - Dealer fixed Vacuum Hoses - Dealer fixed 12K for the car. 250$-Accumulators DIY 110$-O2 Sensor DIY 1000$ - Throttle Actuator - Dealer doing the work - Nearly enough to make me rethink the whole deal, but I have a feeling that I dust another rice rocket on the way home from grandma's house the wagon will keep me coming back for more. |

1st year expenses
Bought an 88 TE in february. Asking price was $6995. After a PPI, I identified approximately $4000 in suggested fixes. Paid $3200 for the car and since then I have done everything the PPI recommended (accumulators, head gasket, timing chain, minor tranny work) plus a few other things like new tires, hood pad, etc. So for around $7500 my wife has a super safe car to drive around on the highway (she drives 175 miles per day). Since March we have put 13,000 miles on the car and at 221,000 I see no end in sight for this tank.

Well, the lesson I learnt is that everyone else is getting a better deal than me. That I should have never purchased an old Luxury car without a bank account to maintain it.
Looks like I will be spending at least $2000 to get the car to run w/o any major problem after $5K purchase price. Hopefully I could drive it for another 30K miles (currently 103400 miles). |

BigBenzWV $2k is nothing I spent that in parts before I could even drive mine everyday. I dropped $1,700 in one week alone (that was a very hard week) on a new oil cooler+lines, floor mats, and wheels and tires.( I know wheels and floor mats are cosmetic but they made the car look so much better) Although my W126 was beat and ready for the junk yard when I bought it. But nothing new is breaking so if you buy a well taken care of Mercedes you are probably in good shape.
