2001 car show..no KOMPRESSOR warum?

International Car Show at San Francisco.
Interesting. Not enough models
But the cars were o.k.
Favorite MBZ was the 2001 SLK.
The C class was very nice also. I understand that it has the V-6 engine now so, no need for the 4cyl Kompressor. But, what is
behind the decision to can the Kompressor?
Also does the E320 come with optional 4-Matic? Any opinions?

The 4-banger supercharged engine feels very rough at high engine speed. Also, BMW(Mercedes' main competitor)up-level the WHOLE 3-Series line ups. So, move the C-Class up is a wise choice IMO as the new C240 feels just as power as C230 Kompressor, but with more refined engine.

As for 4Matic, yes, it's offered on W201 E-Class since 1998(I think), but for 2000 on, 4Matic is also available on E430!!

If you want a 4-season luxury sedan, and don't like ML at some reason, E-Class with 4Matic is right for you!! Both M-Class and E-Class has the same 4Matic system, but in E-Class, there is no low-range(hm...no need anyway.. :p)

The Kompressor was a good way to soup up the four cylinder engine and keep the sales up.

I drove a 2001 SLK230K six speed before buying my C240 six speed. The power was great, everything felt great. What made up my mind was; I couldn't afford to go to the SLK320 to get the better V6 engine and the C240 was peppier than I expected, with the more updated high-tech engine.

The V6 is an absolute engineering masterpiece. Additionally it has been out long enough now that we would have seen any acchilles heel if there were one. The four cylinder Kompressor is just not the level of engineering art that the V6 is. My bet on the C240 was because I feel that it will be longer lived. To have this same engine technology in an SLK, which I believe in general is a cheaper built car, would require about $10K more.
