i was getting wind noise on my 1998 C230, sounded as though a body panel was shunted or a window wasn't closing tightly.
The culprit of the noise was that a metal heat shield under the car had bent down into the slipstream. Bent it back up and the noise went away.

I think when I use a garden hose to spray down the botton of my car it moves the shield down a bit and then when I get on the road for a high-speed cruise the wind moves the metal piece further down and then the noise.

I have a 92 500SEL also with the noise problem. I have a slight tear in the rubber seal at the very corner of the door at the top which seems to cause the wind noise

This was my problem:

My 300e had wind noise that I could not locate using the dollar bill trick (you pinch a dollar bill in the weatherstrip to check tighness all the way around).

Eventually the window regulator failed and when I replaced it the noise was gone. Appently, the window was not going up tight enough to seal out the noise and the new regulator fixed it...just another possibility.
