1980 450 slc bad odor
 

i'm getting a bad odor in my slc. seems to be smelling like rotten eggs or something similar to that. gets really bad when i accelerate and seems to get a little less when i take my foot off accelerator. can anyone help me on this one? thanks in advance. dominick

That smell is coming from your catalytic converter...there are sulphur byproducts in the cat that assist in reducing the harmful emissions that emanate from your exhaust. And burning sulphur (as most of us recall from HS chemistry) smells like rotten eggs.

Typically, it's not supposed to smell like that. It seems to me that your cat is getting clogged or has used up the last of its nine lives...
