W210 Rear axle differential seal/gasket replacement
 

Last night, I noticed oil weeping at the driver’s side of the Diff gasket joint. Could mere tightening to the screws solve the problem, or do I need a full seal replacement. If so, is this a DIY job?

Can someone give a step-by-step procedure of replacing the Diff seal with tips and tricks.

I did a search, not much came up and it appears this may be a common problem with W210.

Be sure the unit isn't overfilled. I am not seeing any regular leaks from 210 diffs.

Could you get me the process for the E320? Might be very similar. What tools do I need to open the back plate? The boltd are looking like a splinned socket :confused:

For MB automatic transmission W5A580, model 722.6 and Model 163 transfer case use:
MB Automatic Transmission FluidMB part no. 001 989 21 03 10

There is no Seal on the diff just a sealant pretty straight forward as far as the procedure loosen bolt SLIGHTLY then loosen bottom bolt to drain, then remove cover, Replace Vent on the top of diff and replace ALL Screws # N 910143 010009

Clean rear cover sealing surface and coat with Hylomar sealing compound part No. 001 989 25 20, or equivalent
Install NEW collared screws (56b) for rear cover, tighten to 50 Nm
Install NEW rear axle vent (55), then tighten to 30 Nm
Fill differential with 1.2 litersof suitable differential fluid
