Sliding Caliper Or Opposed-Piston Caliper?
 

Can someone please tell me what kind of front brake calipers I have. Do I have a sliding caliper or opposed-piston caliper? What about for the rear brakes?

The car is a 1992 300 TE (wagon) California edition.

I need to know this since I suspect that the front calipers are sticking and might need to be rebuilt.

If it has an M103 engine (which I expect yours has), it will have single piston floating front calipers. If it has an M104 engine it will have 4 piston fixed front calipers. Rears are all two piston fixed calipers.

If the pistons don't move back smoothly with minimal pressure, rebuild the calipers. Pretty cheap, doesn't take long, and you need to change the brake fluid anyway.

I've "unstuck" pistons so that they appeared to work properly, but when taken out the piston seal wasn't square anymore....
