My tranny, the hydraulically-controlled 5-speed auto, seems to be skipping 4th gear both on the way up and the way down. Plus, from 5th gear, there is great hesitation to come down either manually with the gear shift lever (moving from D to 4 does nothing, moving to 3 will eventually shift down to 3rd) or with the throttle kickdown mechanism (eventually, the tranny will kick down to 3rd after hesitating). I am the original owner with 75,000 miles on it. 2-1/2 years ago, I had the tranny serviced at 60,000 miles at an independant shop. This week, after experiencing the trouble, I took it to another another shop, and they serviced the tranny again, noting dirty, burned-smelling fluid and restricted flow thru the tranny filter. They also noted that they did not use the type of filter that was put in by the first shop, and they replaced it with a factory filter. I called this shop back to say the shifting problem was still present, and am now waiting until Tuesday to return it to them for a more thorough diagnostic test drive. In the meantime, I thought I would post here to see if anyone has any advice to share.
