The passenger side camshaft is still about 9-10 (crankshaft) degrees retarded even with the new chain (& rails, & tensioner). While I can get offset woodruff keys to compensate, I am concerned; is this indicative of excessively worn sprockets (cam, idler, or what?) or does it implicate something more ominous? The Drivers side cam is right on the money. And no, it is not one tooth off. Should I worry, or “set it and forget it”?

ALWAYS replace the cam gear with a chain job. They will wear out the chain quickly if not done.
Then add an offset key if needed. Remember, half the key. IF you have 10 degrees stretch, you need a 4 degree key, max. You are better off to have too little than too much. 4 degree key = 8 degrees on the crank. This will leave you with 2 left over, this will be fine. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 300E ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM OWNER OF MB AUTOWERKS .COM |
