I've done some reading on my car's symptoms but nothing concrete...
The car is my '94 E320 wagon with 231,000 miles and lately, intermitently, it surges at idle to about 1,200 rpm when warm and sometimes feels like it cuts out on the highway for a brief instant then everything is fine. Typical things have been replaced on it one time or another like HFM harness and I had a tune up recently. I have a CE light that is code 26, 2-3 upshift delay which is the only known error message at this time. Can anybody throw some suggestions out? This is my daily driver with the kids so I would rather not get stuck somewhere.

I would suggest building the diagnostic tool in which Arthur Dalton has taught me to build. This can give more codes to read to further isolate the problem. Just do a search for his posts on the tool build. They are all RadioShack parts and easy to build.

I read your thread with great interest. I unfortunatley don't have the time (kids up my 'nose' all the time) to putz around and troubleshoot with any conviction. By the time I get free time it is almost 8:30 - 9:00 pm. Arthur is the man!

Brought the car in and got the diagnosis and the repair: Air flow meter = $450. Runs great now. They told me my flex disc has two cracks in it too - quoted about $250 for that job. Next trip in for tranny service I'll get the disc fixed.
