Stainless Steel Screws Needed

Where can I get 10 MM hex head stainless steel screws for holding the fuel pumps to the frame of a 1989 420 SEL? These mercedes part numbers 007976 006203 sheet metal screws are just zinc coated. The old ones are rusted real bad, and heads rounded on the first turn. They look like a M6 10MM hex head sheet metal screw about 3/4" long. Any leads?

My neighborhood hardware store has an assortment of metric stainless steel hardware. I bet I could find that size here if you can't find it locally.

Edit, I know they would have machine screws, but I don't know about sheet metal screws.

I wouldn't worry about metric size in a sheet metal screw, especially in that location - just get a standard size that's close.

Searched

This is quite a popular screw in the 126 class cars. It is also used on the exhaust manifold to hold on the aluminum heat shields. The dimensions of the screw are 10 MM hex head, 12 MM length, 6 MM diameter. I sent Mcmaster Carr, Fastenal and Space Air Supply an email. None had it in their on-line catalogs.

Thanks for the leads.

metric SS screws

well i keep a box of almost every size of metric screws and bolts [hex head cap screws HHCS]. i can get them because i buy from an industrial fastener company. when ever i work on the 72 especially i replace all the screws and bolts i come across with SS.

look for an industrial type Fastener company. they have access to this stuff. you can also order over the internet at McMaster Carr. they are in chicago, il area code is 630. sorry i'm not at work or i could give you their number.

my local guy is Sanders Indiana Hardware. 219-465-4090 ask for debbie and tell her that craig sent you. i'm sure you'll have to prepay or go cod but i'd bet you she can help.

good luck

try marine supply

Cigar,

I don't know that you'll find metric sizes, but marine supply places have lots of stainless parts. Good Luck.

SAE.... #14 (1/4") X 1/2" hex head sheet metal screw is almost the EXACT same size.

The main difference is the hex is 3/8" instead of 10mm.

Do you have a West Marine in town? You'd be supprised at the assortment of SS screws/bolts they carry.

MSC (www.mscdirect.com) has some PN 67758524 which is #12 x 3/4" 18-8 stainless "hex washer head slotted" but you have to buy 100 pcs at 12.60. They also have really good prices on special auto repair tools such as tie rod end pullers, filter wrenches, seal pullers etc. Their catalog weighs about 20 lbs!!
