1995 s500 mpg guage high reading
My mpg guage pegs to the maximum reading when the car is standing still. It seems to me that it should indicate a zero value. When the car is in motion, the gauge shows an intermediate reading, but i question it's accuracy. Is there anything wrong with this observed behavior, and what is the cause of the problem?

Well, it doesn't "peg" . . .
it goes to the resting position which is something around 40mpg!! Wouldn't that be nice. Never happen. . . . sadly :(
But that gauge is a measure of the car's vacuum, so the more vacuum the better the gas milage. Conversely, less vacuum means that "you" have got the pedal-to-the-metal, so less gas milage. It's all relative and given the way it is setup, it's correct. You're "solution" is the one that's wrong; if it went to "0", then you REALLY wouldn't be happy now that you know HOW it operates. |
