Trying to buy parts but stuck?
 

When Im tryign to buy a part for my car it asks me "To which engine range does the vehicle belong?"

I dont understand how will I find this out?

I usually just call Phil and tell him what I need. I'm not sure what you mean.

The site http://germanstar.net has a decoder for this info.

Hi,
I just bought an 82 300CDT with 124k miles and wonder if you could help me out.
I am looking for the window "wipes" the weatherstripping on the outside for the front and rear windows. Any source you know of?
Also the ignition cylinder...hard to turn, want to replace it but how do I get it "keyed to doors?"
Also how do I test my Aux fan? I have not seen it run, and my temperature guage stays at just above 80. So Maybe it is not gettting hot enough?
Also fuel economy is only 16mpg? :( any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Engine range:

Find the VIN number, last part is the serial number of the car.

Parts list will usually have somthing like this: "xxxxxxx- or -xxxxxxx" with the number being the last part of the VIN. What this means is "any car with a VIN lower this number (xxxxxxxx-) or any car with a VIN higher than this number (-xxxxxxx). Usually means a running change or different supplier, starting at the chassis number listed.

Call Phill at PartsShop for the weatherstripping, it has to be ordered since no one stocks it (very low demand).

The new lock cylinder can be obtained at a dealer or independent shop -- you need your registration (so they know you aren't getting one for a stolen car!) and VIN number. Get a new key or two at the same time, you may just have a worn key (they do wear out at aobut 200,000 miles or so!). Don't get brass keys made, they shed dust and shavings in the cylinders and cause them to stick.

Do not delay, it's a 10 min job max to change the tumbler if it still turns, 4 or 5 hours and some more parts if it's stuck!

There is a temp switch on the thermostat housing. Pull the wire off and ground it with the ignition on, fan must come on at high speed. One of the switched on the receiver/dryer is for the low speed aux fan -- pull the leads and shot together with ignition on, fan must run in low speed.

Current supply is fused (25A) through a relay.
