420 SEL Seat Switch Goofiness!

Stumped!!!
1986 420 SEL....both left & right seat switches (with memory) only work with the corresponding door in the open position.......?????
Door closed....no worky! Door open.....adjustments work, but not the green memory button???
All fuses check out OK...........I'm stumped!
I could understand if just one of the doors acts this way......pinched wire, bad switch, etc........but both doors started doing this around the same time?

Any and all replies greatly appreciated!
