Coil Spring Part #s for '92 124.026
I have tried my best to search for the information for the above car aka my ride. In a nutshell, I have a '92 Malaysian CKD Spec equipped with I believe "HD springs for countries with poor roads". Basically looks and feels like gravel rally spec here (read on hard stilts).
Thus I am seeking to remedy the situation. I'll admit that the roads here are poor, but I am seeking better comfort & slightly lower ride height. Cornering/handling are not a priority. From what I have managed to glean from the forums thus far, there are several types of spring hardness/length using a 'points' system, according to the weight of the car. Malaysian cars are pretty light on standard equipment. Apart from the ol' inline six, I only have A/C and power windows. Not even a sunroof (it is a tropical country with *lots* of rain). The cars here are basically South Africa spec. I was hoping that some of the more well endowed forum members (i.e. with access to EPC/WIS/etc. cd's) could perhaps advise me the part numbers of springs available - the information I am hoping for will hopefully be along the lines as to that found in the T Sportline thread & GSXR's excellent text file I know this is a lot to ask for from a newbie, but I have been tearing my hair out trying to find the information, and this forums appears to be my best bet yet.... Nice weekend all. P.

I think that you would be better off just fitting the thinnest rubber insulator above the springs, the are three thickness for all the chassis types. It will be a lot cheaper and less of a *hit and miss* job. The SA spec springs are probably the best bet here as there are numerous TALL sleeping policemen and steep approach angle ramps that will cause the car to ground when it is fully loaded. Just my 0.2 cents.

Riding over these undulations & potholes results in a very jiggly ride, particularly low speed, which leads me to the conclusion of springs too stiff, especially at the rear. I went over the my parts dealer (mainly to get door rubbers + other misc stuff) and showed him the printouts from Myarmar, and he (rightly) pointed out that they referred to US models. He had the EPC in his shop but wasn't really about to share and told me that there were only 2 spring specs he knew of in our market, namely South Africa HD (as fitted to my car I believe) and Euro. Also wanted the part number of the springs currently fitted to my car before giving any further info - fair enough but not so easy to achieve. My objective is to find out of there are softer MB springs than my current set, and the EPC will tell all (I hope). So if anyone out there has access to Euro EPC.... Apologies for long newbie posts and endless requests. Thanks to all. P.

Jinggly low speed ride W124
Hello,
I drove a 260E for six years in the US and unfortunately, they all do that gov Instead of messing around with the parts shops, as you have found that extracting information is about the same as extracting teeth around here, go over to HAKITRADE junkyard(Phone:0378450397) along the Old Subang Airport road near the Subang new village, they have loads of springs fron ALL types of modern MBs plus a steady supply of *half cuts* from Hong Kong and Euro countries. I think if you are polite and persistent, they will pull the springs from the half cut for you Have a good week

Thank you though for the tip on the junkyard - I shall be sure to make a trek after the upcoming holidays. Still hoping for some Euro EPC part numbers though from any helpful souls out there At least I will know what is available and can then make an informed choice....

Update
Armed with Myarmar's very helpful EPC output & Nachi's advice, I have since been to a local MB parts dealer. The coil part numbers for USA spec MB's are applicable globally, as the same parts were listed as valid for my chassis no. The dealer's EPC also threw up some pretty interesting options on my car, see this thread .
I have placed an order for OEM springs, 124 321 21 04 for the front & 124 324 16 04 for the rear. Hopefully these will bring about an improvement in the current harsh ride quality - if anything I will at least have a set of new springs. Getting these fitted Friday, together with front wheel bearings, which are starting to deteriorate. Thanks again for everyone's kind assistance. P. PS: Nachi, visited a couple of local chop shops and bought some goodies (it's just like a grown toy store, only better!) - an air vent, interior dome light + a door mirror. Quick Q re the interior dome light, the map reading light portion on mine shines to the left (passenger side in Malaysia). Is this the same for LHD models?

Sorry, but I cannot recall, I last drove the LHD 260E in end 2002 IIRC, the map reading portion is on the LEFT(driver's)side for USA, but my memory is failing me all to often nowadays. Have a good holiday
