Head Gasket fixed itself?
for a while now i've been getting chocolate milk in the coolant expansion tank but no other signs of a head-gasket leak. The other week i flushed out my radiator completely and cleaned most of the oil (that I could get at) out of the expansion tank and hoses. 2 weeks on and no chocolate milk- just a very thin layer of oil/rust coloured film on top of the coolant in the tank.
Any ideas on what might have happened? |
Because it is probably cooler now, and maybe you aren't driving as much, so the symptoms aren't as bad as they were?
|
it is cooler out, but I've used the car just as much, on long and short trips.
The car has never over-heated even when symptoms were bad. Anyway... I'm not complaining! |
The 'Chocolate Milk' may have been Rust
The veins on the water pump rust, and the block is iron. If there are no external leaks and the engine oil is clean, it's possible that the coolant was just contaminated with rust.
If it were me, I'd watch it carefully and replace the hoses and expansion tank. Did you use Shout to clean it out? Charles |
I did use shout funnily enough, on recommendation of posts I'd read here.
I'll keep an eye on it, though hopefully it'll be sold soon. |
Note to self: avoid " 1992 300E Panzerwagon, Euros, 204k (for sale)"
