Leaking power steering pump 250SE
I recently replaced the two O ring seals on my Vickers power steering pump as the pump was leaking badly. The front seal was in good condition so I left it alone. Unfortunately the pump still leaks but to a much lesser degree. I tightened the pump bolts without a torque wrench so it is possible that they are not tightened evenly. Would this be the primary cause of the leak? I look forward to some advice.

why didn't you replace the shaft seal?
I can't believe you went to all the effort to remove the PS pump, clean it up, strip it down and did not replace the shaft seal. THat is where they usually leak!.
Redo the job and do it right and it won't leak. The case seals (o-rings) seldom leak. |

250SE power steering pump leak
Hi Keith,
thanks for your response. I re-did the job and found that there was a burr on the face of the casing. This was sanded flat and I used a torque wrench to evenly tighten all casing bolts. Nil leaks to date. Regards, Tassie Tiger |
