Angry 1983 mercedes 500SEL (european model)

Can you give me any advise on warm up cycle problem. Car starts and cuts off immediately, over and over again - starting and cutting off. Will not stay running, acts like it is not getting gas. It used to finally stay running after a dozen or so tries and would continue running and starting all day. Now cannot get it to stay running with dozens of tries. Keeps cutting off. Ever run into a problem like this? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Cool

CIS fuel systems are very complex mechanical systems that require very CLEAN fuel. Any contamination at all will affect the warm-up regulator & then watch out!
You need to have the fuel system pressures tested, both system & control pressure. I'm sure from your description that that is the starting point for your problem.

Arrow Ignition resistor

Not even sure the 500sel has a dropping resistor, but if it does, a bad resistor will cause this trouble. Would need to check the wiring diagram. Many coils in various cars are meant to run on 8 volts, so there is a resistor in the hot lead to the coil. The start position on the switch shorts out the resistor so the coil gets 12 volts for hotter spark & better starting. with the electronic module handling the spark in the 500sel, perhaps this doesn't apply, but the symptoms reminded me of troubles I have had in the past. hope this helps, but probably not. (Just had to replace the coil and ignition module in my '85 500sel (USA). (BIG BUCKS )
