How does outside mirror cover attach to 98 C230?
 

Someone in a dump truck just passed me on the right as i was turning into my street and took off the right side outside mirror cover and looks like it busted the mirror assembly. Its dark outside so i can't tell how bad it is and its snowing!! I found the cover. it's not broken but scuffed up a bit. Does the cover attach to the mirror assembly or does it attach to the body of the car somehow?

Look at the one on the driver side.
When you fold it forward, you will see a large metal clip with some tangs on it.
If you slide this metal clip sideways, the cover will pull off & you can inspect all the details.
