How do I tell if my harness was replaced?

Hey folks,
A fellow MBCA member advised me to swap the engine wiring harnes on my 96 SL320 before it fails, I think this might of already been done. The reason is that I see places where fasterners should be that are not, I noticed that when I got the car the cover to the base module was cracked and the harness grommet for the engine into the base module was not seated properly and caused the cover to crack, I replaced the cover and seated the grommet properly. I have had no unusual problems with the car, but my friend says replace the harness cause it could fry the computer if it fails, How do I know for sure if it has been replaced? I have had it for a little over a year now, it has 120k on it. The car was maintained by it's prior owner very well. Any ideas? Thanks!
Brian

Wiring harnesses on 1996 cars are fine.

Only 1993-1995 harnesses are bad.

Paul is probably right and preventive action may be overreacting. If so it is probably original but the best way to find out for sure is to find the part number, somewhere near the "source" plug usually, and run it by the parts man at the dealership.

PS - I meant the parts person.
