Replacing Mono Valve

I've got the part. Any tips/suggestions for installing the new Mono Valve in a '95 E320? Thanks

After you replacing your heater valve assembly start the engine with heater on for 20 minutes top off coolant as need.

I was wondering how much coolant I have to drain out before I start?

Don't drain any coolant, make sure the engine is completely cold first. Then remove the expansion tank cap and cover opening with some plastic, ( plastic bag will do). Replace the cap and proceed to remove the monovalve. The bag will act as a vacuum barrier so as to minimize the loss of coolant. After the instalation is complete, follow the instructions as to letting the car warm up with the defrost on high heat and then top of the coolant level after the car has circulated the valve completely.

I did it today. Took me a couple of hours. Probably should have taken my battery out, a little tight in there.

Just one problem, I think I put the rubber hose on the bottom fitting (the one that goes to the washer fluid container) too far on the valve outlet pipe and now the whole unit tilts backward. Bit of strain on the front rubber fastener. I hope that it will be Ok because to fix it means taking the whole thing out again.

Any opinions? You can tell I am not a mechanic!

I have a '95 E300D, (124 Body like yours) in which I replaced the Mono-valve and auxiliary water-pump last year.

I am curious. Is your Mono-valve and Auxiliary water pump ONE unit, or is the Mono-valve a separate component that you were able to purchase and replace on its own? In my case the Mono-valve and auxiliary water pump were only sold as a single very expensive unit

Thanks

Phil

Yes, the mono valve is one unit. $254.00 Cdn. shipped to my door from Arizona in 4 days.

I am still not clear. Was the Auxiliary water pump also included as part of the $254.00 Cdn. Mono-valve replacement, or was it just the Mono-valve?

In my case, there was no way that I was able to purchase the mono-valve, without also receiving the auxiliary water-pump. They come as one complete bolt-on unit. It cost me more than double i.e.: $540.00 Cdn. for these stupid things. Labour was mine.

Who did you buy yours from?

Phil

Sorry, yes both parts are all on one plastic chassis. That's the only way to buy them for my car. I understand that older cars had the pieces seperate so you could replace one or the other. I was quoted $387Cdn. but found one at German Star stateside for $254Cdn. shipped to the door.

You got an excellent deal, In fact I went back to my records and verified the exact price that I paid. It was $564 CDN + Tax. I bought it from my Local Mercedes Dealer. I remember having called around other Mercedes Dealers and they were all around the same price. No one else Carried that particular part.

Was the 387.00 CDN that you were quoted come from a Mercedes dealer?

My Mono-valve itself was OK the reason that I ended-up changing the complete assembly is that the plastic housing on which both the Mono-valve + Auxiliary pump are mounted, cracked and developed a minute leak, I was able to fix that leak with epoxy, but while doing so I noticed that the Auxiliary pump was not working. I took it apart and discovered that the brushes were worn-out. At that point, I said t'hell with the whole thing and bought a new assembly.

Obviously I had paid too much.

No, the quote was from a jobber in Calgary.
