12 point head bolt socket

After visiting sears, home depot, and lowes...... I need to ask everyone where I can find the 12 point socket for my 126 head bolts. Is there a link to a website with the part listed someone can help me with?
I am preping for the upcoming head gasket job!

If it's a 300SE/L, you can get a set of the double (triple?) hex bits at Pep Boys or AutoZone. The tips fit in a 1/2" socket. It's ~$10 for a set of 4 tips (6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm).

Why the search for 12-point sockets? With a 6-point socket there is less chance of rounding off the bolt heads.

But why a socket at all if you need a hex bit?

The head bolts are female, and need a male 12pt. bit & socket to remove and re-torque accordingly.

Hey Ken! Congrats on the 300SE--can't wait to see her!

Did you ever find this tool? I know the original MB part number was/is 617 589 00 10 00 and that Hazet and Stahlwille are OEM suppliers. You can get the Hazet at Sam Stag (SAM STAG) for around $30, but ZDMAK has the Stahlwille for just $20.50. Go to ZDMAK and Search for their part number: ZDM-ST3054XM12.

I think that's what you're after...

A prosperous New Year, my friend!

Prices of this brand are quite reasonable, as is the quality, I have found. Availability is also good.

I did finally get the socket from the toolwarehouse.net for around $35.
The head is off and being machined. It was slightly warped, and the cam was worn. Its also getting the valves seated, new seals, guides & such. Should be as good as new when I get it back next week.
Its also getting ball joints, brakes, rotors, new bumper chrome, timing chain, tensioners, plugs wires, cap, rotor, oil cap, lots of seals, a/c condenser, evaporator, few lines, new leather seat covers, antenna, mb mats, and a full new paint job.
I also found rims from a 01 E430 + the Gil racing spacers....so they fit.
Its looking pretty sharp.

I need to decide on color.....Its a teal green currently, I am thinking midnight blue, or black. It has the light cream interior, with the dark brown dash, so I am leaning towards the blue.
If I decide on black exterior I will dye the dash black.
Any other suggestions?
Ken
