95 e320 wagon check engine troubles

95 E 320 with 120k miles. Have had car and serviced since 45k. Replaced wiring harness last year. Octbober 04' check engine light came on took to dealer replaced air temp sensor. November 04'check engine light back on took to same dealer cleaned the egr tube (said egr valve was functioning properly). Two days later check engine light back on. Nov13 2004 Dealer says these are un related and we are waiting for new diagnosis. I beleive must be a root problem that has not yet been fixed and we are fixing only symptoms.

Any ideas of how to get this properly fixed?

Also, how do i reset the check engine light to make it go out for a few days?

There is a led/sw under the hood that allows code access and clearing.
Use the Search feature and you will find tons of info on the procedure..
Once you get the code that is tripping the CE , we can advise you to a possible fault/remedy.

Could you provide a little more information on the location and description of item I should look for to get codes?

In the engine compartment, check every vacuum line you can get your hands on for obvious aging. These are the small, approximately 1/8" diam., white, maybe black, plastice lines you'll see throughout the engine compartment. Most are traceable eventually to the intake manifold area. Make sure they are all connected to something. If any duck behind the engine, follow with your fingers and make sure they attach somewhere. Gently squeeze/bend with your fingers. They should be stiff but flexible. You'll feel it if one is hard and starts to crack. Remove any covers the lines may go under, especially on top of the engine. Make sure the rubber connectors the vacuum lines mate to are soft with no cracks and the lines go into them securely.

Good Luck, Dan
