would this make a good project?

What do you guys think of this one? I once had a 1973 450se (back in the early 1980s) and it was great fun to drive. This one looks the same, but with more engine. I am thinking of bidding if the rust isn't too bad. Not far from home. I would prefer a diesel, but I can't see to find a decent one in my vicinity.

Depends on what you mean by "good project". If your looking to learn how to do rust repair, it would be a good project. If your looking to fritter away money in virtually limitless quantities, it would be a good project. If your looking to invest in a car that will never, ever, ever have any resale value, it would be a good project. No - this car has only one thing going for it - it's close by. A 6.9 is the poster boy for financially upside down. And that's for a rust-free example - no telling how bad this one could be. Even if none of this babble dissuades you, I would still suggest you look for a rust free example.

the 6.9s are more car than the other 116s. hence, more problems. hydro suspension sends chills down my spine when i remember pricing a pump for 1. the engine is all by itself when it comes to parts and prices. you'd be better off getting a 6.9 that someone else spent good money on getting upside down. if you drive it, they will run. drove a couple over the years. good luck, chuck.

a money pit?

sounds like a money pit. even if it costs just $800 to buy it. I guess it is back to my search for a 1987 300d!
