power window question

i have a 1996 e320, and the pass back window seemed to come off track. i can hear the motor run, when i push the window button. my best bet is to pull the door panel off, but i have not done this on this vehicle. is there anything special i need to do, or a special tool i may need?

thanks in advance.

Aaron

No special tools, just be careful to get all the screws, etc loose. If the panels on a '96 are like those on my '87, the panel is held on with plastic hooks. After the screws are out, the panel slides upwards, disengaging the hooks and the window trim.

Best of luck,

The new model just use clip like japanese cars.

rear window

Hello crash,
This is a common problem on these cars. The reg is easy to replace. Drill out the rivets and replace the part with new m-b rivets, will need a large rivet gun, the part is around 100 dollars.
It comes with or with out the motor. no need for a new motor. The best way to avoid this happening on the other windows is to open and close them every few weeks. If you look you will see that most likely one of the plastic wheels broke.
Fastlane has the parts for less than 100. Dan

That's right. The regulator is not repairable. You need to replace with new one. I just use the normal rivets from hardware store. Make sure the size is right.
Thanks
Ali

I just replaced one of my rear window regulators with the help of this forum. Regarding the rivets, I used the MB steel ones. I bought a large, two-handed rivet gun at Harbor Freight for around $12. It popped those rivets with ease.

maybe i am looking at the wrong parts, because the regulator i looked at was anywhere from $204-250... i will look again..this is for the pass rear window, the only parts i had seen were with a motor. i dont know if they sell it without a motor.

it looks like the wire goofed up in there somewhere, and the plastic wire guide woreout. i disconnected the power to prevent it from coming down, now i just have to find the part as cheap as possible.

On FastLane, regulator without the motor shows up for my '98 at $97. Call Phil for the right part.

i talked to phil and he said i can get it without hte motor for less than $100...

is this as simple as unbolting the old motor and bolting up the new motor?

Cheers
