odometer fixing
 

HELP!! i own a 89 560SEL but the odometer doesnt work i was wondering how do you fix it cause normally its a cable running into the meter for other cars but for this car i cant find it can you help me

The speedometer is electronic and the odometer is mechancally geared off of it. There is a little gear within that fails, it is a common problem.

I suggest you do a search. I Know there are at least 2 threads describing a DIY fix for this. I repaired one myself once with a dab of JB weld. The gear comes loose from the shaft and needs to be re-secured. Great little Saturday morning job.

Well .... be there and done that. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

Interesting pricing. By the time you buy all three gears you pay as much as having a professional do it fo you. The proper cleaning and lubricating and calibration that comes with it and makes it last then must be free. Not to mention labor.

Yes, not a great deal. I agree with taking the speedo head to a professional. Makes much more sense in the long-term.
