Questions

Does it just do this when you first start the car and it has not been warmed up??? Does it do it every time you slow down and the car downshifts????How long since the transmission has been serviced. If recent what fluid are you using???...Jim

The car drags each time after a stop(downshift). The transmission was rebuilt in 2002 I am not sure of the fluid they used.

Transmission

The only thing I would recommend is to change the filter and drain oil from the torque converter. I would use mobil 1 transmission fluid and a quart of trans X. It sounds like your transmission has some of the small passageways almost plugged up. I don't think it is a vacuum problem...goodluck Jim

If you have excessive gear noise (whine), the tranny is still bad, it needed more work than it got on the rebuild. Fairly typical -- MB trannies usually go until they have considerably more wear than US type trannies, and if it just got frictions/steels and new seals, as is the usual "US" tranny rebuild, it wasn't done right.

Otherwise, if this is a new occurance, you have something else wrong.

Check the tranny mount and driveshaft center bearing and carrier first, though -- a bad tranny mount and/or center carrier will allow the driveshaft to "orbit" rather than spin on axis, and this will be at LEAST a roar -- it will eventually sound like someone pounding on the floor pan! A bad flex disk (front or rear) will do the same, will also cause bangs on downshifts.
