Fender Blankets or Good Fender Covers

Gentelmen

Years ago (~ 26 years) when I first worked on MB, the shop I worked for had fender covers and fender blankets, which went under the fender covers. The fender blankets were like a very thick washable flanel like material and worked very well at protecting the cars finish from the dirt that may accumulate on a non washable fender cover. I cannot find these fender blankets anywhere and My Mac Tools fender cover is not quite up to par for working on MB without one of these blankets.

Does anyone know where to get a fender blanket

Or does anyone know of a good fender cover that really doesnt need a blanket and preferably has magnets to hold it in place. :)

Thank You
John Roncallo

In years past these were available from the uniform man. Not only did he bring clean uniforms once a week, but he also brought clean shop towels and fender covers.

Now that you can buy red rags really cheap at the auto supply, I'm not sure if the uniform man still exchanges rags and fender covers as he did when I was a kid in my Dad's shop.

When I was a kid in my Dad's shop, he had plenty of these and would really read the riot act to any of his mechanics when they failed to use them. Customers don't have a sense of humor when you scratch their cars. They didn't use the rubber covers in those days (the fifties) because the cars had wide fenders and the "blanket" would stay in place and tools would stay in plase well on the padded fender.

Call your uniform rental company and ask them. I still have one that I bought from the uniform man over 30 years ago. It doesn't get filthy like shop rags, so I just throw it in the washer with my old work clothes from time to time.

Hope this helps,

Unfortunatly I do not have a unifom man since I am out of that business 16 years, but at least now I know where to look.

That looks like one that will work. Do you know if it's washable?

In our shop we use the blankets used by movers to cover furnature. We buy them at Northern Hydrolics (a discount tool store). They can be washed the same as you would wash a blanket off your bed. The last we bought cost less than $7.00 each.

Check those furniture pads closely. Most of them I have seen have a surface that is a bit too harsh for good automotive paint.

I have the magnetic one from Griot's Garage. Yes the magnets are easily removable and it's made out of a terry cloth material that is easily washable. The pocket comes in handy for wrenches and whatnot.

Cheers,

I simply use a quilted mattress cover folded over double or triple - cheap, soft and washable.

No MB logo but awesome day in and day out performance: Model RLB-H. Removeable launderable liner. They never fall off. Steel or aluminum fenders. Double protection over the fender crown. Comfortable. Full engine bay access. Fold up for easy storage. Used in MB Dealerships and by independents.
