W124 Water Pump Life

THe first water pump on my 95 E320 went for about 80kmiles. Today at about 165kmiles it is starting to squeek (no leaks yet). Is about 80kmiles/pump about normal?

Mine went out at about 130,000 miles...

My original water pump was replaced at approx. 150K.
The replacement pump is still on the car at

The water pump on my 124 lasted just over 100,000 miles, then started to leak.

My original leaked at 40K miles - replaced on warranty.

Mine has just gone out: at 80K. I just purchased a new one, now I'm wondering how difficult is to install. My machanic wants $200 lobor.

Mine went out at around 95K.

$200 is a good price for labor.

Install isn't hard, but it's very time consuming due to the number of other components necessary to remove first. Also pump bolts are tricky to reach.

A good time to replace the tensioner if it's problematic.

Mine went out at about 135k, and when it did, it leaked like crazy. I paid about $190 for labor, $200 isn't too far off.

My original water pump lasted 143k miles on the 260e.... just replaced it again at 212k... go figure.... the second was a MB part... this one is aftermarket.

Took 3.5 hours to do...the first time I did one it took 6 hours

'95 E320 Water Pump Removal

The car is apart and I am able to remove only 2 of the 4 10 mm Allan head cap screws that hold the pump to the block. I have been soaking the screws with penetrating oil for 3 days now with no luck.

Has anyone had to cut the heads off the bolts to get the pump off? Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

Tom, as I recall the water pump bolts for a 1995 E320 are very accessible. An impact wrench would likely break them loose.

Use KROIL as your penetrant.
