Question Transmission Fluid W124 1989 300CE

Can someone please tell me how much transmission fluid I will need to do a flush on my 1989 300CE?

Also, what brand is recommended? Here is what the local store carries:

1. Mobil 1 $8.99 Canadian /quart

Not the Supersyn pictured below

2. Amsoil $11.99 Canadian /quart

3. Castrol ATF $3.99 Canadian /quart

Here is a site comparing Amsoil to Mobil 1:

I bought a case (6 quarts) of Amsoil synthetic ATF, but didn't pay $11.99!

I think I paid $7 something per quart. Don't forget to drain your torque converter too!

Dexron III

Regarding the transmission oil, I talked to the MB dealer two days ago, they only suggested me to use Dexron III for my car (Older MB). I bought Valvoline Dexron III USD2.5 per qt. Same rule to the motor oil, do not use syntheic oil for older MB. I'd like to try syntheic oil myself, but I am worried about leaking problem. That might be one of the reason the MB dealer stopped me. Kept me wondering???

I understand the concern as many people feel the same way of synthetic vs conventional oil. I use synthetic motor oil in all of my cars and always have. Most of my cars are considered "older" and I have not experienced any leaking. I think when I buy my next car, I will use conventional oil and change more frequently, for example every 3000km/1850miles instead of 5000km/3000miles which will cost less and should be considered good maintenance.

I pride in the fact that my car's engine, and transmission, do not leak a drop! But my differential has a small leak wheeping tiny amounts. I check it from time to time but have not needed to add anything yet!

The tranny shifts OK, however there is a little flare from third to fourth before the car is up to temp. I've tried turning clockwise the modulator valve to make a more firm shift but doing so had made 2nd, and 3ed, more harsh than I liked, so I returned it back to it's previous setting. Hay, at 240K I can live with that.

Can't tell any difference between synthetic and dyno ATF! Claims are longer life, and that is why it's in there! BB

I was told that I will need 7.2 liters which is the equivalent of 7.6 quarts to do a flush including torque converter.
Can anyone confirm this?

I decided to buy some Amsoil ATF
(costs $13.79 Canadian including the tax for each quart)
