tranmission speedometer gear replacement
I have a 1995 E320 coupe and my speedometer stopped working. After removing the speedometer cable (which I suspected was the problem) - I found that the end that goes into the transmission takeoff was all snarled and broken off. Also the part on the transmission where the speedo cable inserts was worn round - and will need to be replaced.
Can the speedometer takeoff assembly be removed from the transmission w/o any major tranny teardown?? From what I could see (laying on my back under the car) - it looked like there were several bolts that might be holding the assembly to the trans. Can anyone help me out with this??? If assembly can be removed - where can I get a replacement part?? |
spedo gear R&R
The rear case does bolt onto the tranny seperately from the main case. Do not have to remove tranny either.

Thanks for reply - do I have to remove the rear case - or does the speedo takeoff assembly bolt onto the exterior of rear case and removable w/o taking off rear case??
